insider tip

wedding day stress causing break-outs?

"Visine on a pimple will take the redness out and will be easier to cover up. You will need to reapply regularly. Visine is a vaso-constrictor so it will shrink blood vessels therefore decreasing redness, same way it does in your eyes."

Chris Love performs non-religious ceremonies based on faith in love itself

We met Chris Love on The Ring's chat boards about a year ago. At the time, she was busy posting advice answers on wedding planning, relationships, dealing with difficult family members and, well, you get the picture. So, why was a married woman chatting in our bridal forums? Because she could... Chris has always found herself completely drawn to all things weddings, eventually prompting her to undertake studies to become an officiant. "I'm a romantic. There's very few days that are as important to someone's life as the wedding day. I love chatting with brides and helping them any way I can." Since the day Chris earned her right to pronounce you man and wife, this woman has found her way into the hearts of local couples with a ceremony that has deep meaning, but maybe not the word, God. "I believe that a ceremony based on faith in love itself is as equally important as a religious faith-based ceremony."... click for full story

Underneath it all it's Rosalind's that keeps you looking and feeling beautiful

When we met with Denise and Tara of Rosalind’s Lingerie, we knew there was something 'uplifting' about these fun and energetic women. They are both friendly and approachable. With great service, ultra high quality lingerie, and a 25 year track record for being amazing, Rosalind's Lingerie is where a bride goes when she needs those essentials for her wedding day and honeymoon. Denise and her daughter Tara have made it their life’s mission to make sure that every bride is a well dressed bride 'underneath it all'. Let us explain... Denise says, “Your body is like a house. You need to start with good foundation!” With 18 years of experience in the 'foundation' business, Denise knows what she’s talking about. “Think of it this way, if you are uncomfortable throughout the entire day, how does that reflect in your mood? Or if you aren’t wearing the right size strapless bra, how does that affect your appearance in your strapless gown?”... click for full story

most romantic proposal: 'DREAM Proposal =)' by Lisa

"It was our first trip out west to see the mountains! I was soo excited because I had grown up snowboarding and had never been out side of Ontario to ride! After getting off the plane in Calgary you can see the mountains in the distance. As we drove we were both speechless, it was incredible! Monday morning we were up at dawn and at the bottom of Mt. Allan for first run at Norquay resort in Banff Ab. It was a beautiful day, 10C and sunny! We had gone down about four times before we stopped for a break. We stopped about half way down the face of the mountain and just sat there and looked out! It was beautiful, there was no one around and it was like we owned that spot. My boyfriend looked over at me and told me that he loved me, his eyes started to fill up with tears and then I new what was about to happen!! He was down on both knees (we had snowboards on) pulled out the ring and asked me to spend the rest of our lives together. Oh course after freaking out I said YES!! I was BLOWN AWAY I had no idea and I don’t think I could have dreamed a better proposal!! And if that wasnt enough there was roses, champain and chocolate covered strawberries in our room when we got back! I love this MAN and I cant wait to spend the rest of our lives together!"

advice chat fav: 'Stag & Doe' by Janie-lee and Jesse'

relationship survival stories & advice for engaged couples fav: 'Living together before marriage...' by Aimee&Paul

"Hey Ladies, Well in my group of friends we are the first people to be engaged, well one of the first to even have a long term relationship. I have been getting asked what I thought about living together before marriage. In my opinion, its the BEST thing we have done. We have so far been living together for 10 months, 4 of those have been in the house we currently purchased. I know renting was a different story, when we lived together in an apartment, it was fun, but there were less bills. Financially nothing came between us. But moving to a house has caused pressure in those terms... BUT I STILL always tell people the same thing, i wouldn't have done it any other way. By us living together and going through these trials and moments where we hate everything, it has proved to us that our marriage will work. I was always told that the first 6 months to a year of marriage were the worst cuz you are constantly trying to coordinate times and habits and chores, but I think I am now gonna ADORE my first year of marriage cuz we are now passed alll that. Anyways, just wanted to know what others thought! Happy Planning!" click for more

5 Tips & Trends for Hand-made Stationary

Courtesy of Scribes Nook Inc.

1. The biggest trend is that there is no trend

Brides want to be different. They want to show their personality and sentiment in their invitations, and they don't want to be like anyone else. This means bright colours, light colours, parchment paper, hand-made paper, cardstock, stamps, hand-writing, embossed symbols, ribbon, no ribbon. No invitation is the same.

2. Personalize with lyrics

Consider using lyrics from a favourite song or a quote from a favourite book or poem to personalize your stationary. Could be just one line or an entire paragraph. Rule of thumb: less is more. When you're making your own stationary, you have the freedom to run these words of love up the side, across the top or bottom, or even on the back of invitations, programs, place cards, and other stationary.

3. Layers are in

Using layers in your invitations adds dimension, elegance, and the freedom to assemble in stages. Vellum, ribbon, different shades of paper, cut-outs of your favourite symbol... The options are limitless.

4. Accessorize, girls!

Just because you're making your own invitations, doesn't mean you have to staple it all together. Layers and pages of your stationary can be fastened with symbol fasteners, ribbon, embossed wax stamps, stickers and more.

5. Decorate with Stationary

You don't have to have the exact same pattern and colour from top to bottom when it comes to your wedding, but a great idea is to use your favourite symbol - a sunflower, a gold swirl, a silver embossed heart, etc - and carry it throughout your wedding. If you're hand-making your place cards and favour boxes as well, you can use your symbol on each of your items. When using your symbol in table numbers, place cards and favour boxes atop your reception tables, you'll notice that your theme/design/symbol is not only bringing your personality into your reception, but it's doubling as decor!

Favourite find @ Scribes Nook by The Ring: When visiting Scribes Nook Inc, we found things we didn't even know existed. For example, did you know that you can purchase special pens to write with, that can then be dipped in very cool embossing power, all to create you own embossed text? No printing press required. Very cool!

Squeezing Out The Pennies

money saving tips for planning your wedding

Prioritize

The best wedding planning advice that I ever received was to rank what was important to me from most important to what I could do without. When the budget doesn't allow for every whim and wish, think about which elements you envision in your perfect wedding day. Make those specific things your priority and work your budget out from there. There are no rules that say that every wedding must have $200 glass slippers (as beautiful as they are)... so if that's not important to you, don't stress about it! Spend the money on what will make the day memorable for you.

Communicate

It's easy to sometimes forget that the people you are hiring for your wedding day services are people... with so little time on your hands during the planning process, sometimes you neglect to communicate with them. By taking the time to really talk with your potential wedding professionals, you will not only make sure that you've got the right match for what you want for your wedding... you can also work out how their services can fit into your budget. There's no harm in being completely honest about how much you have to spend on a particular area, and working with them on making it happen.

Hire

While the word hiring does imply spending money, this one task can quite possibly save you the most. By hiring the right experts to help you, you can feel safe knowing that your money is well spent.

Research

By taking on the responsibility of researching what tasks, knowledge and experience are needed to make a successful wedding, you will be able to easily spot which professionals can be trusted with the job. Talking with other brides who have gone through the same things that you have, reading articles and planning books, and, well... by visiting The Ring... you can learn the ins and outs about who you need to do what. You might even realize that you can do some of it on your own. And you'll definitely learn that the least expensive professional isn't always the best, or the best suited for what you need.

Improvise

Now's the time to get in touch with your creative side! Maybe you have the talent to hand make your own invitations... or maybe you want to tackle making your own wedding cake. With a little improvising combined with knowing your own strengths you can cut costs and have fun. Throw a party to have your bridal party, friends and family help you with whatever you've decided to try doing yourself. That's what they're there for!
