:: How one bride took a do-it-yourself approach to décor

Decorating is one of the biggest parts of a wedding. It is something that makes each wedding unique, but, at the same time, can be pricey. There are some things you can't help but hire a professional for, or rent yourself, like a backdrop.

I found it very inexpensive to make my own head table decoration and my own archway entrance. Your centerpieces can also be very simple and easy to make. I borrowed Christmas lights from family and friends (they all have to be the same colour) and bought a roll of tulle from a local craft store for $40 (I waited for it to go on sale, or you can often use a coupon).

With these materials, I decorated the head table, gift table & cake table. I added artificial ivy along the edge of the tables to add some colour. The ivy I also bought on sale, but its regular price is only $10 for a 6-foot piece at various craft stores.

To make your own archway entrance, buy a pre-lit wedding archway or even a garden archway and wrap lights and tulle around it. For my wedding, I added ivy with red flowers (our theme colour) to hang down the sides. I bought and made these decorations for under $100.
