How we
met...
High School/Youth Group.
We wanted to
share our story because...
To share with people
that just because you're young doesn't mean you can't do it... and to show
that you don't need a butt load of money for a wedding.
How
he proposed...
We
had just purchased our first home and were scheduled to take possession of
it on the 27th of July. I wasn't going to be living there because of our
beliefs, so I sorta knew that in the next few months or so I may be getting
a ring. I wasn't expecting it for right away since we bought a fixer upper
and nobody would live there right away. Anyways, on the Wednesday, July 25
we were at Home Depot picking up our fridge and I started digging around the
middle console in his truck, looking for a pen while he was loading the
fridge, when all of a sudden he starts banging on the back window of the
truck telling me "STAY OUT OF THERE!" I was like, why I need a pen, but he
said just stay out (I guess lucky for him I was just feeling around in there
instead of looking around). Anyways on the way home I obviously bugged and
bugged about what it was and he said there was a house warming gift in there
and I could have it in a couple days. Well then I started to think it was a
ring, but the next night, the night we got possession of the house, we had a
ball game and his mom was out watching, and since I had bugged everybody
else that would know if it was a ring and they hadn't told me, I decided to
bug his mom. I asked if she new what was in there and she said no. I was
making a scene - joking around - when she says "Hey Monica, maybe it's an
engagement ring!" So right then and there I knew it couldn't be a ring
because she would never have even mentioned it. The next night, Friday, July
28, 2006, I came home from work, quickly got changed and was waiting at my
parents house for him to come get me so that we could pick up a couch a
street over. I also had some boxes of house stuff and when he got there he
insisted that we needed to go to the house first instead of swinging by the
neighbours to get the couch. On the way there I was bugging him asking when
I get my housewarming gift and he said that really it wasn't anything
special but he would give it to me latter if I was "good". We got to the
house and I grabbed a box to carry in the house. When I walked into the
living room there was a vase of roses and an envelope with my name on it, I
looked at him and was like, "is this for me?" He was just like "oh yeah" and
kept going on with moving boxes in and out. So I started to read the letter,
which was also the first letter in 4 and a half years that I have ever
gotten from him, which talked about all the things we have been through,
sickness and deaths and happy times too, it talked about our daily routines
and the things we do together and what he loves about those things and the
little things that I do, it talked about how buying this house was a big
step for us and he knew that it would be stressful at first but he knows
that everything would be ok because we have each other and then it said that
he looked forward to spending the rest of our lives together. Well I am not
one to cry but it was just so sweet the way he said everything so I was
balling, but since he wasn't staying in the room while I read this I didn't
think it was a proposal but then I turned and he was there and just smiled
at me. I gave him a big hug and said thanks and it meant a lot to read all
that and while I was hugging him he just starts SHAKING!!! He pulls away and
starts to go down on one knee, I did the "oh my god" thing and then let him
say "will you marry me?" He pulled open the box I said yes and just grabbed
him and hugged him... I didn't even give him a second to put the ring on...
I actually forgot to... but then he asked if I wanted the ring on and it was
beautiful. Turns out that was what was in the middle console in the truck!
He didn't tell his mom until after baseball about proposing and waited to
ask my dad until the Friday when I wouldn't see him anymore because I know
when my dad is hiding something from me. The two people that knew the whole
time was my best friend, Heather, and my brother, Jeremy.
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I am over the top
excited. Although we have never lived together, we spend so much time
together during waking hours that we suspect only a minor adjustment - which
to be truthful will be a perk.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Ryan and me. As long as
Ryan is there it is literally my dream wedding, I am not to picky on the
other stuff because it really doesn't matter in the long run.
Our colour/theme:
Teal (I think). We
aren't positive yet. It all depends on dresses and what colors are
available.
planning
So far (by
January 31, 2007) we've planned...
Church location, Pastor,
photographer, reception hall, dj, caterer, and just this weekend the wedding
dress.
Our biggest concern right now is...
The bridesmaid dresses.
My one matron of honor lives in California - luckily if she is also in her
sister's wedding and the Taylor's (who we are using have her measurements).
Our families are VERY different and I hope for them to mesh ok. Also my
parents are divorced and up until this past year never got along - hopefully
they can continue this new found respect.
Chapter one diary entry...
I have got to get on top of
choosing bridesmaid dresses. My main concern is that I want ones they can
wear again - but I am starting to realize that it may not happen because
those types of dresses really won't suit everyone in the bridal party as
they are all very different shapes and sizes to each other. We shall see. Oh
yeah, gotta call the caterer for a taste testing - can't wait - FREE
DINNER!!!!
bridal diary:
march 19, 2007
How we're feeling...
We
are still totally ready to just be married!!!!! I keep saying when we are
told a cost - le'ts not spend to much no matter how much you spend we'll
still be married at the end of the day and that is really all we want!!!!
The groom surprised me
by...
He's been my
rock these past couple of days. He always is but especially now when I
really do need it.
What's going on with my
bridal party...
One of my
bridesmaids had her baby (who is also my future sister-in-law). She had a
little girl named Cara Faith and this little one is going to be our flower
girl!!!!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
Well my grandpa
whom we were really close to died on St. Patrick's Day. That makes it 3
grandparents that have died in less than a year and we still have 6 months
to go.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
I'm still
looking for a bright side right now.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
EVERYBODY wants MONEY!!!!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
Once again
everybody wants money even people that won't be doing anything at all!!!!!
And the hunt
continues...
We also
contacted our photographer and she's been great. I really don't like flowers
to much in the first place and am completely lost on them. I've had her
books (she brought me over magazines and some of her photos of stuff she had
already done) for a while now so she called the other day to see if I wanted
her to come over sometime and help me a bit more now that I sort of know
what I like and dislike. She's totally awesome and watching our budget for
us on this point - the less we spend is fine with her!!! I am so glad we
have her.
Advice for out
brides out there...
So our color
changed from teal to dark purple - it's like a plum color and I love it. I
had really wanted black for bridesmaids dresses, etc. but my fiancé really
didn't want that - so now I am sorta getting what I want because this purple
is really dark! We changed the color because the teal really wasn't working
for us anymore and hadn't really been something I envisioned since I was
little - plus we want some pics in a corn field and the bridesmaids would
just blend in. I'm pretty sure the groomsmen are a little happier with this
change in color because now they'll be wearing this or silver so that's
good.

How we
met...
We met 12 years ago but had
lost touch and lived different lives.
We wanted to
share our story because...
When I moved to
Kitchener from Hawaii I had to do a lot of searching and testing to figure
out what is good and bad here. I didn't want all of this knowledge to go to
waste.
How
he proposed...
I was
living in Hawaii and I was expecting Tim to come in on Friday. My parents
had called inviting me out to dinner Thursday night. When I got there Tim
was there. We decided to blow off the restaurant and get a bottle of wine
and head to the beach. When we were there it started to sprinkle so I wanted
to go. He said I had to wait because he had one more surprise. He got down
on his knee and proposed.
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I can't wait!
Our dream wedding could be described as...
It was much easier to
have our wedding here in Kitchener so I am bringing Hawaii to the K-W area.
Our colour/theme:
We are having a Hawaiian
beach theme.
planning
So far (by
February 1, 2007) we've planned...
I have just about
everything planned.
Our biggest concern right now is...
My biggest concern is
being able to pull this all together within budget.
Chapter one diary entry...
So I have all of my vendors
chosen, I have finished my invites, and have purchased my items for my
favors. Now I have to start assembling the favors. I've had 2 fittings and
have 2 fittings left.

How we
met...
We met online.
We wanted to
share our story because...
I want to share my
reality wedding story with other brides as they have shared their stories
with me!
How
he proposed...
Well
Scott isn't an extravagant romantic but he does try! While we were
vacationing in May he popped the question. We were at Walt Disney World and
it was the end of our first day there. We were at the Magic Kingdom and just
finished watching the fireworks show! Right after the show he proceeded to
get down on one knee and ask me to marry him! I was so stunned that I told
him to shut up. He laughed and said well will you. And I of course said YES!
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I am extremely excited
as I know that I have found my soul mate in Scott.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Enchantment!
Our colour/theme:
We're having a
Cinderella theme! It just seemed right since he proposed in front of
Cinderella's Castle!
planning
So far (by
February 20, 2007) we've planned...
Everything! Can you
believe it? We will be having an outdoor ceremony and we're praying for nice
weather!!! It's so nice to know that everything is booked and deposits are
paid. Now we can relax for a short while anyway. September will be here
before we know it!
Our biggest concern right now is...
Everything running
smoothly.
Chapter one diary entry...
Well know that everything is
booked, I have had the chance to sit and just relax. We are looking at
wedding rings at the moment and hope to purchase them after tax season!
We're finalizing the guest list as well which seems like such a tedious
task! The invitations are ordered and my mother who lives 8 hours away wants
me to send her one already! I told her she just had to wait! In a few weeks,
we will be making a little trip to the States with two of our bridesmaids to
order dresses. We decided to get the dresses in the States since half the
bridesmaids are in Canada and half are in the States. My FH and I are also
wrestling with the decision as to whether or not we want to include our dog
in the ceremony. We will be having an outdoor ceremony and we would love to
have our dog there. She is like our child! So we will see what we decide to
do! But other than that everything has been smooth sailing and we can't wait
until September!
bridal diary:
april 10, 2007
How we're feeling...
Well we are glad to be done with all of our planning. We are now just
anxiously awaiting for the day to get here! Arguments tend to pop up every
once and a while, mostly concerning the budget and money, but we always seem
to smooth things out.
The groom surprised me
by...
He's great. It's
the little things that he does that makes my days worth while! I'm sick
right now and he's been checking in on me while he's at work. Also he's been
making sure that I'm tucked in nice and warm in bed at night so that I can
beat this nasty cold.
What's going on with my
bridal party...
My bridal party
is interesting to say the least. Half of the girls in the bridal party live
in the States. So organizing tends to be a problem! But they have all been
great and we went dress shopping last month! The dresses look great on the
girls! We're going with wine for the maids and my sister, the maid of honour,
is wearing pink! My niece, the flower girl, also tried on dresses and she
looked so cute!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
One of my maids
couldn't make it to the States last month when we went dress shopping. So I
had to order her dress based on her measurements. I hope it fits!
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
My FH and I went
to see Phantom of the Opera. It was a lovely evening. We haven't had an
evening alone together in quite a long time and it was nice to be able to go
out and enjoy each other's company.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
money...what else?
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
none yet.
And the hunt
continues...
Everything is
booked. Contracts signed, deposits paid! We have a deposit due at the end of
this month to our caterer. We've also bought our gifts for the bridal party
and we found lovely glasses for the bridal party for dinner!
Advice for out
brides out there...
Just breathe!
Getting all worked up and stressed out isn't going to help. I try to take
each day at a time and do tasks a little at a time so that it doesn't seem
like so much to do at the end.
bridal diary:
may 18, 2007
How we're feeling...
Well we are both doing quite well right now. We are obviously excited about
our upcoming wedding. Right now we've been busy working out the details of
our honeymoon. When we sat down to decide where to go on our honeymoon, one
place came to mind... Disney World. It's a special place for the both of us.
In 2003, we took our first trip together... to Walt Disney World. In 2006,
we got engaged right in front of Cinderella's Castle at Walt Disney World!
So we will be honeymooning there! We're doing a bit of a delayed honeymoon.
We're leaving November 29, two months after the wedding, and will be
returning December 9! We're looking forward to the Christmas festivities
that Disney holds that time of year! We can't wait!! For the actual wedding
planning, we've been working on compiling addresses for invitations. We're
just waiting on Scott's dad to get the addresses for his extended family. We
also have to work on favours, centrepieces, place cards, seating chart, and
programs. So this summer should be filled with all those wonderful tasks!
The groom surprised me
by...
Just by being
him! Whenever I have a bad day, he always lifts my spirits. Whether it's by
going for a walk with our dog, or sitting on the deck and talking, or going
for ice cream!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
My bridal party
has been great! They are quite busy right now with planning the details for
our stag and doe! They're all working so hard and it's going to be a great
night! The guys will be going to get fitted for their tuxes sometime this
summer. We sent out an email to see when was best for everyone, since they
all have varying schedules! My girls and my mother are throwing a bridal
shower for me in two weekends. It's going to be in Pennsylvania. So I will
be making another trip to the states with my fiancé and this time my dog :)
I'm having two showers this summer... one thrown by my mom and my US
bridesmaids and the other by my mom in law to be and my Canadian
bridesmaids! What a busy summer!!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
Chasing after my
bridesmaids in the States to go and order their dresses! It takes about 8
weeks for the dresses to come in and they need to be ordered so that my mom
and dad can bring up the dresses for my Canadian bridesmaids when they visit
for the stag and doe!
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
Nothing really
haha! I'll let you know when something does!
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Organizing the guest list and all of the addresses! Thank god for
spreadsheets!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
Paid a deposit
at the end of April. Next one due June 9!
And the hunt
continues...
All done! But my
vendors are: ceremony and reception location: University of Guelph
Arboretum, photographer:
Sarah Huton Photography... she's awesome!!,
cake:
Too Nice To Slice, cake by Chrissie... so sweet, ceremony
musicians:
Purely Music, flute and cello duo, our
officiant is a friend of a friend - he's a cop who's an ordained minister.
Advice for out
brides out there...
I have to say
that I am excited for September to be here! It seems like it will never get
here. But I have lots of tasks and events to do until that day. A stag and
doe and 2 showers this summer will keep anyone busy. I have lots of crafts
to do concerning my centrepieces and favours... and I am not the craftiest
person in the world but thank god that Scott's aunts are! They've agreed to
help me make my favours. We're making chocolate lollipops! But overall, I'm
happy in my life right now with my great fiancé. He makes everyday
worthwhile :)
bridal diary:

How we're feeling...
Well we sat down last night and worked on our invitations. There wasn't much
to do since we had ordered them online. All we had to do was write out the
addresses and fold maps to go with the invitations. What fun!
The groom surprised me
by...
He said that we
could go to PA for a visit with my family over the long weekend :) I'm so
excited! My aunt and cousins are in from Chicago and I haven't seen them in
almost a year!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
Everything is
good, for the most part! I'm irritated on one thing but I won't get into it
on here! They are all working away though on our stag and doe!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
Building permit
for our tent! Apparently we need engineer stamped drawings of the tent! But
we're working on resolving the issue!
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
The bridesmaids
dresses came in well ahead of time! YAY!
Planning

Building permit!!!!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
None. My
fiancé's parents are giving us $5000 to help pay for things.
Advice for out

3 months to go!
Time is flying by! Next month is our stag and doe! Should be good times! We
are both excited for that event!

How we're feeling...
The wedding is getting closer and closer... the stress is starting to hit me
a little bit! But I'm not doing that bad. We still have little things to do
like favours and centrepieces but other than that everything is booked and
planned! We are still working on the building permit for our tent. We have
the engineer's stamped drawings. Now we just have to get all the paperwork
signed and take it into the city and apply for it! Such fun! I assigned that
task to my fiancé. I've been handling everything else. We had our stag and
doe last month and it was fabulous! There was a great turnout and we had a
blast with all of our friends and family. Just can't wait until the wedding
day!!!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
My grandparents
not wanting to travel to Canada to come to my wedding. :(
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
I got a job!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
The budget is
totally under control! Let the cheque writing begin!!!!

How we're feeling...
Well I must say that I am not enjoying this last minute planning! I actually
am dealing with it quite well, considering. I've made a list and I've been
checking lots of stuff off as I go! The stress is starting to hit me but I
am dealing with it the best that I can. My fiancé has been great with
helping me deal with it. If he knows I'm feeling stressed he'll give me a
great big hug! What a doll! Last night we typed up our seating cards, favor
tags and worked on our programs. Not much left to do, thank goodness!!
The groom surprised me
by...
He had flowers
delivered to me at work AND he brought me lunch for my birthday! What a
sweetie. :)
What's going on with my
bridal party...
They threw me a
wicked stag and doe that raised a lot of money! We all had a blast together!
My girls threw me a fun shower and I had a great time at that as well. :)
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
BUILDING
PERMIT!!!!! But I am pleased to say that we FINALLY have it in our hands! No
more worries !!!
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
I had a really
fun bridal shower that my fiancé's sister (my bridesmaid) and his aunt, mom
and grandma threw for me!
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Little things here and there! Just the little stuff that builds up and needs
to get down!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
None! Thank

that time is flying by so fast! I am trying to relax and enjoy things as

Advice for out
brides out there...
Well, the
wedding is all over!!! We had a beautiful day and couldn't have asked for
better weather! The sun was shining down on us all day and it was nice and
warm! No rain and no cool weather is all we asked for! The ceremony was just
perfect! It was outside but we used our tent that we rented anyways! I got a
little choked up while saying my vows but held back the tears! Hiring
musicians (a flute and cello duo) was definitely the way to go! It added to
the atmosphere quite nicely! The reception was amazing! We had an amazing
time dancing and partying with all of our guests! We're sad to see that it
is all over but we are quite looking forward to our honeymoon in Disney
World in December! The days leading up to the wedding just flew by! I woke
up the day of my wedding and I couldn't believe that it was here! It was
definitely what we both dreamed of for our wedding day! Pictures will be up,
but please be patient, I have to wait for my awesome photographer,
Sarah Huton, who is on The Ring btw! Best
wishes to all you brides-to-be out there! It is definitely all worth it in
the end!!! :)

How we
met...
At University.
We wanted to
share our story because...
To show other brides that you don't have to be Martha Stewart to plan your
own wedding!
How
he proposed...
I always
imagined a romantic proposal by fireworks or sky writing but it ended up
being a very unromantic one. We simply discussed our future plans and
somehow we ended up talking about marriage. "So do you wanna?" "Sure why
not!" pretty much sums it up! The next day we went to the mall together to
get an engagement ring and I made him get down on one knee in the middle of
the busy mall to propose. We were both so red!
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I feel SO MANY things! I'm nervous, anxious, elated and most of all totally
excited!
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Our ceremony will be outdoors. I love nature and want to be surrounded by
trees, the water, the birds and a nice cool breeze!
Our colour/theme:
We don't have a theme but our colours are Ocean blue, moss green and cream.
planning
So far (by
April 19, 2007) we've planned...
Almost
everything except bridal party accessories, rehearsal, honeymoon and
decorations.
Our biggest concern right now is...
Because I am crafting the favours as well as the bridal party gifts myself,
I am very afraid of not having everything done in time. Also because the
ceremony is outside I'm really afraid its going to rain. NOOO!
Chapter one diary entry...
My brain hurts!
Things are starting to come together but there is still SO MUCH to do. It
seems whenever I try to take a step forward I take three steps back. SIGH! I
know it will all be worth it in the end!
bridal diary:
may 1, 2007
How we're feeling...
We
are stressed at this point. Of course we are looking forward to getting
married but things are starting to take its toll. My FH was really looking
forward to our honeymoon but it turns out we really can't afford it which
upsets him as his sis was given $30,000 for her wedding. (His dad was
pressured by the groom's parents to pay for everything as they are very
traditional.)
The groom surprised me
by...
I know how much
he has been looking forward to our honeymoon. He’s never really been
anywhere outside the country and he so deserves a vacation. He’s stuck in a
job HE HATES just so he can have his vacation time and now it turns out we
probably can’t go as we don’t have enough $. I was expecting a battle
between us but he took it very well. I still feel terrible he won’t get his
trip and may have to stay in that job for a few extra months (which I doubt
he’ll do as he hates it THAT much).
What's going on with my
bridal party...
Well it looks
like the dress I chose for my bridesmaids is no longer sold and they are
getting rid of their stock. No problem, I’ll just pick another one right?
WRONG!!!!!! Two of my bridesmaids have already ordered it and when the third
went to do the same (only a couple days later) she found out they didn’t
have any left in her size and the closest one left was far too big to get
taken in for her. Now what? Fortunately she is the MOH so its not a big deal
for her to look different from the others. She managed to find a similar
looking dress however so that’s going to have to do.
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
Just about
everything! I take things as they come and try to work through the problems
one at a time. Its never good when the bridesmaids are stressing out more
than you are! There is so much to do that I simply won’t have time for so I
had to ask my FH to help organize things such as the Buck and Doe and the
honeymoon (which most likely won’t happen anymore. See below). The date for
the B&D is fast approaching and I don’t think he’s done anything yet besides
rent to place. Sigh! I need two heads and 8 arms. Time seems to be FLYING by
and I just can’t seem to get my crafts done fast enough. I’ve spent SO MUCH
$$$ to personalize my favours I really hope people appreciate them.
According to my make-up artists (MOH’s sister) favours are a complete waste
of money. Guess we know who won’t be getting any then!
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
I found out I
get back a pretty good chunk of change for my income taxes which is SO
DESPERATELY needed right now. "Free" money is always a plus.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
I pride myself on being a great organizer but I really dropped the ball on
this one. Everything is swimming around in my head but I have NO TIME to
just sit down and organize. I just remembered the other day we still haven’t
gotten our wedding rings yet. There’s goes more cash out the window. And the
officiant costs $175 for 30 mins! What the hell!?!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
When isn’t there
a budgeting issue? ALWAYS!!!!! It’s a good start for couples who are tight
for cash to first try and plan a wedding. If you aren’t at each others
throats by the end of it all, you’re good to get married! :) Since I waited
far too long to book a decorator, we will most likely have to overpay for
their services. Not good! I didn’t realize decorations cost so much to RENT!
I mean they’re getting everything back afterwards why so much??
Unfortunately with this unforeseen glitch, we won’t be able to afford our
honeymoon. :( My FH didn’t want to put it off as he thinks we’ll never go
but I had to convince him we would. Hopefully a couple months afterwards we
will be able to go.
And the hunt
continues...
DOH!!! I really
shouldn't have waited so long to hire a decorator! The place I wanted
already has 8 weddings booked and have to charge $250 over their minimum
price. OY! So now I’m emailing every vendor in town asking what their
minimum price is and if they’re available. For you brides to be out there DO
NOT wait till the last minute to book your vendors! Originally I was going
to do them myself, but I’m running out of time, and I really have no
experience in that department. Since our wedding is under 50 people I really
don’t want to spend a grand on decorations ya know? All I want are some
simple embellishments here and there. Wish me luck and hopefully someone out
there in K-W is available and isn’t going to charge me an arm and a leg to
RENT.
Advice for out
brides out there...
NOBODY will have
the perfect wedding! Whether it be money issues, families not getting along,
unavailable vendors, dress problems, its going to happen like it or not.
They key is to KNOW this ahead of time so when something does go wrong, you
don’t flip out and loose your cool. Many things are not going the way I
planned so far. For instance we were originally planning for a 30 person
wedding. We booked the reception site and sent in our first payments. Then
we started adding more and more people so now we’re stuck in a very small
room where there isn’t even enough room on the table for centerpieces!!! We
may even have to separate people into different rooms!!! Can you imagine?
You just have to work with what you have and make the best of it. Guests
aren’t going to notice everything you do so don’t stress over the little
things. It only happens once so enjoy it!

How we're feeling...
We
are really looking forward to the big day. I still don't even think it's
sunk it quite yet, I've just been so busy. The last month FLEW BY!
The groom surprised me
by...
Helping me out
with planning. Also, he never hassles me when I spend more than we wanted
to. He's the greatest!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
Things actually
turned around for the better. Not only was my MOH able to get the same dress
and my other two bridesmaids but she also got it on sale!!!!! Things can
actually work out sometimes!!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
I have to give
my wedding party their main gifts after the wedding as I just won't have
time to finish them prior to. Oh well, they said they didn't mind.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
Since my fiancé
was very adamant about going ANYWHERE after the wedding, we finally decided
on taking a short trip up by Georgian Bay in Bruce's Peninsula. It looks
gorgeous up there and I can't wait!!!
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Things cost too much money these days!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
Still trying to
make everything work. Find out what needs to be paid now and what can be
paid later. When everything is written out in front of you it helps relieve
some stress!
And the hunt
continues...
I think we're
done with hiring vendors at this point. This is who we have that is reviewed
by The Ring: Ceremony & Reception -
The Waterlot
and Photographer -
Memory Lane Studio. I am doing my own
bouquets, my brother is doing the videography and friends of ours are going
to play music.
Advice for out
brides out there...
Start early if
you are making your own things. It will always take longer than you think.

How we're feeling...
Okay so where did the time go? Its July ALREADY!?!? EEP!
The groom surprised me
by...
Getting mad at
me for buying things for our wedding! HELLO these things don’t just fall out
of the sky you know? I think his nerves are started to get to him!!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
I just bought
them all matching earrings and necklaces for the wedding which happen to go
very nicely with my own. The price was GREAT too. I also finally got to see
one of my BM’s in their dress!!!!! It looked SO MUCH better than I thought
it would I’m so pleased. Plus my MOH is going to wear it to her hubby’s xmas
work party. She’s going to knock their socks off! I’m glad they can wear it
again as it doesn’t quite look like a typical BM dress.
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
I have anxiety,
and at our Buck and Doe I actually had a few panic attacks (to the point I
ended up in tears) that day and was a wreck for most of the night. People
kept telling me to relax and that everything was fine (which I knew) but I
just couldn’t. By the end of the night I was better but I’m now anxious
about getting anxious for the big day. I want to enjoy myself this time.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We’re FINALLY
getting our engagement pictures taken tomorrow. And we’re getting married
next week!!!
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Just last minute things I keep forgetting about. OH CRAP... I still need to
get our marriage licence!!!! See, just like that.
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
Everything is
due now. Crappy!
Advice for out
brides out there...
Do your best to
pay off your vendors at different times throughout your engagement. That way
you won’t end up having to pay them all at once a week before your wedding
when you’ve got enough stress as it is. Also, this is the time when stress
is at an all time high so it's common for you and your fiancé to get on each
other's nerves. Just remember why you said yes in the first place and know
when your day finally arrives, you won’t be able to keep your eyes and arms
off each other! ;)

How we
met...
Through a mutual
friend on her birthday.
We wanted to
share our story because...
I want to share my wedding story because I love reading about other
couples'... and because we haven't known each other that long... but true
love just exists.
How
he proposed...
Well.. it's sort
of a funny story... I was heading to Victoria BC for a week with my
girlfriend at the end of August... kind of a treat for ourselves. Anyways,
the night before I left my our friend Dru's bachelor party (their wedding
was set for Sept 15, 2006) so Alex was all upset because he wanted to spend
the last night I was home with me, but I made him go out for Dru's party...
Anyways!!! I picked him up once he claimed he "lost his license and couldn't
get into the rippers" he was really... well wasted... So I tried to get him
to go to bed... then he just looks at me with those drunk eyes and says
"Don't go to BC... stay here with me... Marry Me"... Obviously, as he was
drunk I just shrugged it off and told him to ask me when he was sober
(figuring well he wouldn't remember anyways! lol) So I went to BC... and as
I was on my flight home, he sent me a text message saying he had a "little"
surprise for me, for when I got off the plane... I didn't think TOO much of
it.. but I did kind of think in the back of my mind... "no way!" I told
myself... so sure enough when he picked me up from the airport, he reaches
in the backseat of his car for my surprise... (at this point I had thought
in my head so much I was excited at the thought it could be a ring!) So then
he pulls out this stuffed dog he had made from Build-a-Bear and says here
you go! :) (Secretly disappointed in my head) I said awwwe that's sooo
sweet!! or something to that effect.. then we drove home (from Hamilton)...
about half way there he asked me what I thought the surprise was going to
be... and I said basically that he knew what I thought it was... so as not
to bring it up... lol. Anywho, when we got home, we were parked in the
parking lot of our townhouse complex and he leaned over and kissed me... and
wouldn't stop (haha)... then when he finally pulled away he had the ring box
open and had it held out in front of me, with a big smile on his face... So
we did the whole hugs and kiss thing.. but the first thing I said out of my
mouth was something along the lines of him being a sneaky bastard haha...
(cause he made me think it was a ring... then it wasn't... and then it
was!!). But it was gorgeous and I cried, and then he had to go back to
work.. :)
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
Very ancy! Now that we have our house... and once we settle into it, things
will become more of a reality too though, I'm so happy to be able to spend
the rest of my life with him... never have I ever met a man that is so
caring and willing to do absolutely anything to make my day better...
Couldn't have asked for a greater person!!
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Family, Friends and my Fiancé! A nice ceremony (where I don't cry).
Beautiful pictures and all those special moments.
Our colour/theme:
Brown, Green and Cream/Ivory.
planning
So far (by
May 2, 2007) we've planned...
The
Ceremony, Reception (thanks to
The
Black Forest Inn... my photographer, decorator, dj, food, cake
etc..). The officiant is
Don Perron, I've got my dress, the girls'
dresses, I know what the boys will wear... they just need fittings... I'm
doing my own invitations.. and have sent out the save the date cards... I
made my girls' necklaces myself... ummmm I'll update more when I think of
them!! lol
Our biggest concern right now is...
My
biggest concern is that my pictures won't turn out, and that people will
have a terrible time... I'd really hate for them to not enjoy their time at
our wedding... I want it to be as memorable for them, as it will be for Alex
and I.
Chapter one diary entry...
Really excited
about my upcoming meeting with Barb at
The
Black Forest Inn! This will be our first planning session, I'm so
excited about our options and to finally see how things will look and be
figured out for the big day!

Amy
Longmore
&
Ajay
Madan
Engaged
December 28th & 31st, 2005
Wedding
September 28th & 30th, 2007
Our Theme & Colours
This is definitely a fall
wedding. Lots of colours (reds, oranges, yellows, browns, greens, etc.). For
the Indian wedding, the colour scheme is red and gold.
Guest Invited
For the first wedding, there
will be about 100-120 guests, while for the Indian wedding, there will be
about 350-400 guests.
Budget
$20,000 excluding our
honeymoon, Ajay and I are primarily footing this bill, but his parents are
paying for the Hindu wedding
|
basics
How we
met...
Lived in same
residence (2nd floor Brandon Hall) at McMaster University.
We wanted to
share our story because...
Our wedding planning has been unique in that we are having 2 weddings (A
Canadian Christian wedding and an East Indian Hindu wedding). It's been
preparing for 2 full ceremonies and 2 full receptions. Double the work.. but
double the fun!
How
he proposed...
Because we have
2 weddings, you have to have 2 proposals. The first proposal was when we
started looking for engagement rings. Ajay was nervous that he wouldn't pick
out what I wanted, so we went hunting for rings. When we found the right
one, instead of him going on his own, he decided right then and there. I
jumped for joy, I couldn't contain my excitement. We wandered around the
mall for about 1 hour while my ring was being sized for me. The second
proposal came on New Year's Eve. We were supposed to be going to the bank to
run errands, when Ajay took a detour and drove me down to McMaster
University. He made me close my eyes for part of the trip. Once we got
there, we went for a walk. I wasn't expecting anything because we were
already engaged. He took me to a spot under an alcove that connects 2 of the
older buildings (this was where we had our first kiss on campus). Ajay got
down on one knee and talked about how we met and that we had our first kiss
here, but that first kiss was just a sign of many more to come and how he
always knew we would be together forever, but that now we were going to make
if official... I don't remember much else because I was crying. He got up
kissed me and then kissed my engagement ring!
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
We have now been together for about 8 1/2 years. This just seems very right,
we really wanted to get established, but now are ready to take this step of
marriage and commitment to each other. We are thrilled to begin our life
together as husband and wife and look forward to taking and sharing the
traditions we grew up on, and beginning to create our own as a family.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
I always saw a fall wedding as my dream... I liked the country feel and
certainly wanted something personal and unique. I always wanted a small
wedding, but knew it would hard with Ajay's family being large. That is why
we felt having the 2 weddings would reflect both our families' cultures and
dreams.
Our colour/theme:
This is definitely a fall wedding. Lots of colours (reds, oranges, yellows,
browns, greens, etc.). The Bridesmaids are in wine coloured dresses. There
is also a black wrought iron theme. This wasn't in the original plans, but
fall reminds me of when my mom and I used to go for walks in the crisp
evening with the black lamp posts around our neighbourhood lighting our way.
For the Indian wedding, the colour scheme is red and gold.
planning
So far (by
May 16, 2007) we've planned...
We have
done everything for the first wedding except create a ceremony program,
address the invitations, write out the place cards, finalize the
transportation, finalize the honeymoon, finalize the song lists and the
menu. For the East Indian wedding, there is a lot more we need to do. We
have a Mandap (canopy), a photographer, a ceremony/reception location and
decorator, DJ, videographer, and some accessories. We just got the
bridesmaids outfits in India.
Our biggest concern right now is...
At
this point for the first wedding, the honeymoon seems to be our biggest
concern because our travel agent decided to leave the company, so we are
trying to develop a rapport with a new agent. The biggest concern for the
East Indian wedding is that I currently have no clothes purchased... so that
is a bit of a concern, but here's hoping we can scratch that off our list
soon.
Chapter one diary entry...
Tonight, Ajay
and I are going to Mississauga to try some Indian food from one of the
potential caterers. We are also going to look around at outfits for myself
for the Indian wedding. I am really excited to see what I will eventually
wear for the wedding. I know it will be red and gold, but I have no idea how
elaborate. This past weekend, Ajay's mom asked me about jewellery and I
found out a lot of jewellery is coming to me from India, I feel so spoiled
and excited and this is so different from what I am used to! Having the
pictures from these wedding days will be the best gift of all, so I can
remember how I looked and remember all the great things about the day.

How we're feeling...
We
are feeling pretty good right now. We went to our friend's wedding on June
2/07 and it made us think more about our own. People are starting to get
excited and I'm thinking more about getting our invitations out in early
July, which makes it feel so real! We're also looking forward to going to
Bingemans
this week for a food sampling for our
Grey Silo Golf Course wedding... Mmmm...
food!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
I have one last
bridesmaid to take up for her 1st fitting on June 23rd to
Taylor's Bridal Boutique Inc. . So far the girls are looking
fantastic and I can't wait to see them on the big day!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...We
have yet to finalize things with our travel agency. We're hoping to meet
with her this week, as our final amount is due in mid-late July, and we are
concerned we haven't received final confirmation on paper nor our final
flight times.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We went shopping
for our clothes for the indian wedding this past weekend, which was lots of
fun!! The lenghas are so glamorous and very detailed in embroidery and
jewels (I felt like a million bucks or like an indian queen). Ajay looks so
handsome in his outfit (we kept saying he is the Raja - meaning king in
Hindi). Now we just need to look for an outfit for our sangeet party and
some jewellery and shoes for me.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
I'm finding now that despite doing so much ahead of time, we still have so
much to do. The girls in The Ring have been so helpful to remind me of
things I should be doing... it's just finding the time. I'm a worrier, so
even though it probably isn't something to worry about, I still think we
better get on this and not leave it to the last minute. I think I will feel
better once the invitations have been addressed and sent out!
bridal diary:

How we're feeling...
It
was so exciting seeing my ticker under 3 months. I feel like it's really
happening now. People are starting to get excited and we're hearing about
everyone coming for the wedding, so it makes us feel so thankful and blessed
that people want to share our day with us.
The groom surprised me
by...
Ajay got his
tuxes picked out... he is going to look so handsome, as well as the
groomsmen. The colours look so good with the bridesmaid dresses, and Ajay
has that subtle difference just to make him stand out/shine more.
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
So far everything has settled down now. I'm thinking more about the table
settings, and am curious how it will all look when I'm delegating this task,
but I know I have to put my faith into other people that it will turn out
beautifully.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We got our
invitations out yesterday, which made me feel so much better... We're also
getting our honeymoon sorted out and paying it off this weekend, which is a
huge relief.
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
This is going to
be a big budgeting month... we finally decided to take out a line of credit,
just to make sure. This month we will have the honeymoon paid off, a deposit
to the photographer, and half of the hall/food/drink paid off. I'll be
relieved in the end, because then there won't so much do.
And the hunt
continues...
Now the process
begins to finalize with all the vendors. We're meeting Pam from
Pamela Wideman Photography
at the end of the month to finalize photography locations and the
timeline for the day. I have to get in touch with my florist as well to
finalize everything since our mothers just recently picked out their
dresses.
bridal diary:
july 30, 2007
How we're feeling...
I
can't believe we are now under the 2 month mark. It really feels exciting
now. There's still so much to do, but it feels like it's coming together
now. We've been talking more about our honeymoon, which we are both excited
about because it finally means a vacation!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
My MOH is
apparently working on my shower, I now know it's Sunday August 19th at her
place in Oakville. I've been told the invitations have been sent out. I just
can't wait. We're now finalizing the make-up trials and I know all my girls
are going to look fantastic.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We started
looking at photos for our videographer,
Willow Creek Studios. We're trying to create a video montage of
our lives growing up. It's so amazing looking at pics of my FH when he was a
kid, he was so cute! It's also brought back memories for myself and I feel I
have been more emotional thinking about the day, so I've been keeping
Kleenex near by (lol).
Planning
pet peeves lately...
We've sent out
the invitations, so now the waiting game begins. I feel like it takes
forever for people to send back the reply cards! I mean we put stamps on
them, how hard is it!!!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
We sent our
first cheque to
Bingemans
this past week who is doing our catering at
Grey Silo Golf Course. That was a huge
cheque and certainly not the end of it. So we do notice money is flying out
faster then it's coming in. We're hoping that the majority of everything
will be paid off before the wedding day comes.
And the hunt
continues...
My next hunt is
for a indian lengha for my sangeet on the 22nd of September. It's probably
the last thing I need to find, well maybe shoes & jewelry for that wedding.
I'm going with FH's mom on August 3rd, so hopefully we'll find something
that day!

How
he proposed...
It was our one
year anniversary. I didn't think we were going to do anything, I thought we
might order in Chinese and watch a movie. But he had actually gone behind my
back and made dinner reservations at a restaurant in Cambridge. We ate an
AMAZING dinner, and then went out to the terrace for drinks after we
finished. It was dimly lit, and SOOOO perfect :) And then he completely took
me by surprise, and pulled out the most INCREDIBLE diamond I had ever seen,
and asked me to marry him. Of course, I accepted.
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I'm really excited about the wedding. We have been living together for about
a year in a beautiful new house in Kitchener. I don't really think that much
is going to change after we're married. If anything, I'm sure that things
will only be more fantastic.
Our colour/theme:
Chocolate Brown and Leaf Green
planning
So far (by
June 1, 2007) we've planned...
the ceremony, officiant, photographer, reception, bride's dress,
bridesmaid's dresses, tuxedoes, hair, makeup, cake and honeymoon.
Our biggest concern right now is...
No
concerns :) Just your average occasional pre-wedding freakouts about crying
in front of EVERYONE I know.
Chapter one diary entry...
There are 3
weeks and one day until the main event. From now until then I have to hand
out deposits and payments to a million people, have my dress altered, have
my stag and doe, host a party at my house and work at my normal, everyday
job. I'm not really finding things to be stressful, just overwhelming. I'm
really excited about the wedding. We started planning it after our
engagement in September '06, to be held in October '07. In February of this
year, we found out that we're expecting a baby in October :) We decided in
early April that we would hold our wedding in June. Can I just tell you,
that expediting the planning process costs ENTIRELY more money!! But the
important part is taking it one day at a time, and having SERIOUS assistance
from the Groom. Colin has called a million people, booked things, and given
great opinions on things that most guys will never hear about. My wedding is
a really big deal, and I love it!!
bridal diary:
june 5, 2007
How we're feeling...
Less than 3 weeks to go!!! I'm still not nervous, but we're definitely
feeling the financial hit. Most vendors require the balance of their fee 2
weeks before the event; which means that this weekend everyone needs to be
paid. Things are a little bit stressful, but overall, I'm just looking
forward to the big day!!!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
Well, since the
best man bailed 2 weeks ago (no, I am absolutely not joking), we have added
a stand-in groomsman. He is cooperating wonderfully though, whereas, my
fiancé has yet to tell the next guy down that he's the new best man. Tick
tock Colin! Our bridesmaids dresses came in this week, which was AWESOME!
They're perfect, and now the girls just have to get their alterations done.
My maid of honour is going camping this weekend, so that leaves her
completely unavailable for Bride-Assisting. Luckily though, I have another
AMAZING friend who is also a bridesmaid, who is ready at the drop of a hat
to help me out. This is my last free weekend before the wedding, and I'm
using it to run deposits, pick up my dress and update my registry (I
received everything I had listed already as bridal shower gifts!!). Next
weekend is our stag and doe, my trial hair appointment and my friend's baby
shower. Busy busy!
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Realizing that there are still a number of people who have not RSVP'd. Of
course, I didn't realize it until I sat down to do my seating arrangements
(which, by the way, I gave up on once I realized that it's a political
disaster). YIKES!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
No budgeting
issues this week :) I am still finding it heart wrenching to hand over money
to strangers.
And the hunt
continues...
WE STILL DON'T
HAVE A STRING QUARTET!!! Not because we can't find one, but because WE
HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED LOOKING!! Oh no, now I'm freaking. But no, really, I'm
not stressed.
Advice for out
brides out there...
Do not watch the
Bridal Disaster shows on TV during the month before your wedding. I watch
them a couple times a week, and I do not sleep those nights. People run into
some terrible issues on those shows!

How we
met...
Well, he says in
Grade 10 Science Class... I guess he forgot that he came to a church youth
function and we hung out the year before.
We wanted to
share our story because...
Every wedding and every couple has their own story. I never get tired of
hearing how people enjoyed (or didn't enjoy) the planning stages, and the
things that make their wedding and themselves so unique! I think it's
exciting to share my story.
How
he proposed...
Well, we knew we
wanted to get married - so I knew the proposal was coming eventually. We had
just gone to my parents' place for Labour Day weekend and everyone was
overly happy. (Jay had asked permission at 5 in the morning Monday morning.)
I thought something might be up. Wednesday evening Jay had plans for us to
go out into the country to visit his step-grandparents' farm. I hadn't been
there before, and when we started walking around the fields watching the
sunset, I figured he was going to propose. It never happened. That night, I
was quite upset and actually cried. (Long story short - I figured he was
afraid of commitment.) The next night, we were going to go out to dinner at
9, but take a walk in the park first. Well, he stopped in a secluded area
near the water and sang "I Wanna Grow Old with You" by Adam Sandler, and
said his speech about good times and bad, wrinkly or not... then went down
on one knee and proposed with a gorgeous custom made ring! The dinner outing
was pre-planned with over 20 friends we knew! (Apparently he was heart
wrenched that I was so sad the night before - oops :) )
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
Oh my gosh! So excited!!! I love every bit of this planning stuff... and I
am getting Jay to make all the phone calls and final stuff. I'm even more
excited to spend my life with the one man I know will never leave my side. I
know life brings good times and bad - and I'm okay with that - but knowing
we love and respect each other and that we'll support each other in any
decision we need to make... that's all that matters.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Him - Me - Lots of close family and friends... and a LOT of unique and
creative flare!
Our colour/theme:
We're getting married in an old heritage village, with use of the "town
chapel" and a small hall. Our theme is old/rustic. Our colors are brown
(guys' tuxes) and blue, with green accents.
planning
So far (by
June 1 2007) we've planned...
The big
stuff: Hall, caterer, florist, decorating plans, hair stylist, the dresses,
the tuxedos, the photographer, the website, the registries...
Our biggest concern right now is...
The weather! The "roads" are dirt/gravel... so God please don't let it
rain!!! Another concern is being able to stretch our budget the whole way!!!
Chapter one diary entry...
Jay and I have a
busy summer - it's hard to find a weekend where we can complete some wedding
plans! We have 5 stag and does to attend, and 4 more weddings to attend!!
But it's a blast anyway! Ha ha.

How we
met...
Working at McDonalds when we were 16.
We wanted to
share our story because...
I have loved every minute of wedding planning, and would like to share my
story with other brides!
How
he proposed...
On Christmas Eve
I suggested we go see the lights at Victoria Park, well little did I know
that he was already going to take me there! We walked into the gazebo, where
4 years earlier he gave me my promise ring, and he got down on one knee and
asked me to marry him!
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
I'm extremely excited! I can't see my future without him.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Lots of family and friends coming together and supporting us. And perfect
weather!
Our colour/theme:
Pink and Green
planning
So far (by
August 25, 2007) we've planned...
We have the church, hall, menu, decorator, photographer, centrepieces, candy
buffet accessories, my dress, bridesmaid's gifts, bridesmaid's dresses, DJ
and cake done.
Our biggest concern right now is...
STRESS!!! I'm in school still and I'm concerned that it might be too much to
handle both!
Chapter one diary entry...
Well its the
last week before I go back to school! I managed to get a lot of things done
over the summer so that I won't worry about anything while I'm in school!
I'm really happy with how much I have accomplished over the summer.
Hopefully the next 8 months of school will go over smoothly!

How we're feeling...
So far we are
both excited with the wedding coming up. We are into single digits now, so
it became more surreal. I'm so in love with him because he is sooo
supportive of me going back to school, and that he is taking a charge in the
planning while I'm in school.
The groom surprised me
by...
Looking at some
limos! I asked him in July to pick a limo, so the fact that he looked some
up and got back to me with prices was very surprising!
What's going on with my
bridal party...
Well, so far
they are great! They are extremely helpful! They already have the Stag and
Doe done!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
My MOH telling
me she doesn't want to pay for her dress because it's too expensive and she
can't afford it (it's not that expensive!)
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
We decided when
we are going to take our engagement pics! I'm soooo excited to get these
done in the fall with all the amazing colours.
Planning
pet peeves lately...
The MOH issue.
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
The budget
hasn't been a issue so far! We are under budget so far.
And the hunt
continues...
All the vendors
are done except the limo!

How we're feeling...
Everything is done! Can't believe! Now its time to sit back and wait!
The groom surprised me
by...
Treating me to a
de-stress dinner.
What's going on with my
bridal party...
We are planning
a hip bridal party dance, so we are trying to get everyone's take on it.
What happened this week
that was awesome!...
Girls finally
picked their dresses!
Planning
pet peeves lately...
Trying to get all the girls to decide on a date to look at dresses!
Our
budgeting issues this week/day/month...
None!
And the hunt
continues...
I just have to
meet with the flower lady and finalize what flowers are being used. Other
than this, all vendors are done!
bridal diary:

How we're feeling...
School is almost done, so that means
getting the last minute things done! Everything is going sooo smoothly its
kind of creepy! We are both really excited for the day!!
The groom surprised me
by...
Offering to get
my hair done! (Aw)
What's going on with my
bridal party...
Bridal party is doing good, they want
to do things to make it easier for me... which is awesome!
What happened this week
that was frustrating...
My parents
keep inviting people when I sent out invites in March!

How we
met...
Through a friend
at a birthday party.
We wanted to
share our story because...
Because after years of a not so perfect relationships and 2 years of being
single and single parent I am a believer that love really does exist and it
can happen when you least expect it or want it.
How
he proposed...
We had only been
dating for about 5 months and Jeremy had suggested taking a look at
engagement rings. We already knew at this point that we were meant for each
other however we weren't in a rush but he suggested we look so when the time
came he knew what I liked. We chose a beautiful ring with a heart shaped
diamond but I said it was too expensive but it was the most beautiful ring I
had ever seen. I suggested we keep looking... moving closer to Christmas we
were in Build A Bear and I noticed a bear named "Bearemy" just like his name
and said it was so cute... also because his friends call him Jer the Bear
but I call him my Jer Bear... LOL. After that trip he started singing the
song from the TVO claymation cartoon "Jeremy the Bear" from when we were
kids... always a comedian. Christmas passed and thoughts of rings passed.
Fast forward to March 07 and I was at gymnastics for my daughter and
couldn't get a hold of him. I tried his cell, his work and home and no
answer. Finally he called just before her class was over. Jeremy asked if I
was coming home soon or if I was going to get dinner, etc. I said was coming
home and that I had been worried I couldn't get a hold of him. He said he
been helping his parents with something at their house but he was home now
and was waiting for us. I got home and was going to sit down next to him on
the sofa and pulled out a build a bear box. He said "I thought maybe you
were mad at me so I got you something". I opened the box and pulled out the
bear called "Bearemy". I was laughing and thought it was sooo cute that he
remembered but that I wasn't mad just worried. My daughter thought this was
funny that mommy was getting a teddy bear. Jeremy pointed out that I should
squeeze the hand as it had a recording in it. I hadn't seen that so I was
trying to squeeze the hand on the bear. Just as I did that Jeremy was
getting up off the sofa and the bear started sing the song from the TVO show
"Jeremy the Bear"... I was really laughing as I realized it was Jeremy's
voice that was the recording. He had built the bear and sang into this voice
box... The song he sang went like this "I'm a bear called Jeremy, I can do
most anything, I can sing and dance and play... Jolene won't you marry me?"
And with that I realized he was down on one knee in front of me and said
"Jolene, will you marry me?" And there was the most beautiful ring we had
chosen back in November. Both us started to cry and of course I said yes!
Then we asked my daughter if it was okay that he marry me as well... and she
said yes! She loves him as much as I do. It was simple yet so thoughtful...
at 5 months he had gone back the next day and bought the ring but waited
until March to ask me. It was perfect and funny in everyway - just like him!
How we feel about our upcoming married
life...
We are really excited to start our life together. We seem to love each other
more every day in all ways. The wedding seems so far away and that it can't
be here fast enough!
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Our dream wedding is making sure that all our best friends and family are
there and that everyone has a great time and it's one big party. We would
like to get married at my family's cottage at Belwood Lake with the ceremony
taking place on Lakeside just before sundown and then enjoying great food
and music with everyone until the sun comes up!
Our colour/theme:
The theme is classy whimsical outdoors. We envision metal buckets with
multicoloured gerber daisies on the tables with turquoise blue ribbons and
butterflies, dragonflies and ladybugs on the invites that will be carried
through to the cake that sits on a bed of wheatgrass and place cards,
candles etc. The bridesmaids are in mix and match tea length dresses in
turquoise and white and the men are in khaki/tan pants and blue blazers and
ties. Almost Cape Cod wedding style.
planning
So far (by
September 22, 2007) we've planned...
• Chosen Bridesmaids, groomsmen and attire
• Flowers and cake
• Location, tent, minister, photographer
• Idea of what food we would like but not booked
• Rough guest list
• Idea of decorations, centrepieces
Our biggest concern right now is...
The wedding is outdoors so weather and making sure the tent is comfortable
and able to accommodate everyone, etc. Making sure that our family and
friends are not responsible for cleaning up, etc.

How we
met...
In Grade 5, he
was my first boyfriend, but I only went out with him because I wanted to be
popular because I was the new girl... I dumped him two weeks later... lol.
We've been good friends since. We didn't get involved romantically until
high school.
We wanted to
share our story because...
I think it's a story of destiny. Who knew that my very first boyfriend ever,
would also eventually become my future husband. As well, it just proves that
friends are able to become more than that, and true love might just be right
under your nose, where you least expect it. We're proof, nine years later
(including 3 of those living together) as much in love as the very first.
How
he proposed...
After I
graduated university, Jamie's graduation present to me was a month
backpacking in Europe, something I've always dreamed of doing. One romantic
night in Venice, we had dinner at one of the cafes and walked along St
Mark's Square, with its beautiful church, with all the buildings lit up with
little white lights and a live orchestra playing in the square. Our tour
manager bought all the girls on our tour roses and we were all getting set
to go on our gondola rides through the canals (as Venice consists entirely
of sidewalks and canals, no roads whatsoever). We even had bottles of
champagne to accompany our gondola rides. Jamie and I were sharing a gondola
with two other couples so we made it a little game that after every bridge
we went under on our gondola ride, we would kiss our significant others. As
we passed under the first bridge, we kissed but as we passed under the
second bridge, Jamie stood up on the gondola. As he did so, the gondola kind
of rocked so I tried to pull him back down and even said "are you crazy? are
you trying to tip us over?" Then as he proceeded to bend down on one knee
and asked me to marry him, needless to say, I had nothing more to say other
than a simple "of course". One of the guys on our gondola yelled out "she
said yes!" and everyone on the tour from the other gondolas started yelling
and screaming and popping open their champagne bottles. As we got back to
the dock, we were sprayed with some champagne and felt like movie stars as
everyone from our tour wanted pictures of us. It was truly a magical night,
a story for the grandkids for sure.
How we feel about our upcoming married
life ...
A little anxious and scared, nervous. We've been together for so long and
the fact that this is the ultimate culmination of all our years together, we
just want our day to be one of the happiest days ever. It's been a long time
coming as well, so we've been anticipating it and now the time has finally
come.
Our dream wedding could be described as...
Even with an expected 200 guests, we still want our reception to feel
intimate and cozy. We are also having a traditional Laotian wedding a month
before our North American wedding to honour my side of the family's
traditions (just imagine Jamie, a fairly big Irish guy in hammer pants,
should be good times).
Our colour/theme:
Our wedding date is actually the first day of summer and the longest day of
daylight of the year so we're having a spring/early summer theme. Colours we
were thinking of were pale yellow and light green.
planning
So far (by
November 26, 2007) we've planned...
Venue, date, and that's pretty much it.
Our biggest concern right now is...
Having two wedding receptions within a month or two of each other. We'd like
to get most the planning done as early as possible, as I am a bridesmaid for
another wedding that will most likely be around the same time. Timing and
organization are KEY.
Chapter one diary entry...
Well, after over
a year of being engaged, we've finally set a wedding date and picked a
venue. It is
St. George Banquet Hall in Waterloo and is
actually the very first place we looked at. Both our moms came along and
really liked it as well. All the other venues were always being compared to
the first, so we finally made the BIG decision. Next on our list, guest list
and wedding attendants... help!
