How we met... Lavalife.

We wanted to share our story because... I want to share my reality wedding story so current brides to be and future brides to be can maybe get some helpful hints and pieces of advice on how to plan their wedding and what to watch out for.

How he proposed... Surprised me with a trip to New York City! He proposed in Central Park on a blanket over looking the pond where kids sail their toy boats. It was amazing!

How we feel about our upcoming married life... I feel like the wedding is just for one day and I want to prepare more for the marriage. There are certain things that are must haves for the reception but all in all I'm looking forward to our life together. We have the same goals and enough different interests to keep our relationship interesting and fun.

Our dream wedding could be described as... My dream wedding would be everyone being there and enjoying the food and ambience of our reception venue followed by a kick ass party where everyone is on the dance floor. I can't wait for the party.

Our colour/theme: The colour scheme will be warm earth tones, chocolate brown Chiavari Chairs, with taupe or champagne coloured table linens and rich jewel toned burnt orange and apricot coloured flowers.

Planning

So far (by June 19, 2008) we've planned... Nothing has actually been booked thus far. We are seriously considering La Hacienda in Waterloo as our ceremony and reception venue. I have had an appointment with Select Service, a Kitchener catering company and am waiting to get a quote from them. I have several appointments booked in the next week or so for florists, dejays, musicians, etc..

Our biggest concern right now is... My biggest concern right now is the cost of everything!

Bridal Diary: June 19, 2008

Paco proposed! I'm still on cloud nine! I love my ring. I can't get over how good Paco was at keeping this a secret from me. Usually when we plan something secretly for each other we get too excited and spill the beans before the actual day, but he was good and kept it a secret. It's been fun showing people at work and even people who I see throughout my work day who I don't actually work with as well. It's amazing how people you don't even know can get so happy for you about an engagement. Within the next couple of weeks we hope to have our venue booked and then we're going to be tackling a good caterer. If anyone has any suggestions for flowers, dejays, musicians, caterers please let me know. I'm not from the K-W area originally so any information or tips would be greatly appreciated.

How we met... High School.

We wanted to share our story because... I want to try to help other bride-to-be's through the stress of planning a wedding by giving them ideas and hopefully encouraging them through the whole process.

How he proposed... We went to my grandfather's house in Parry Sound, he lives on a lake. It was right around sunset and Stephen told me he wanted some help building a campfire. We walked down to the lake and Stephen looked at me and told me that he loved me, and he loved me so much he wanted to be with me forever. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked, I was not expecting it at all. I kept asking him if he was serious. Once I realized he was I gave him a huge hug and started crying. He then said "Is that a yes?" and I said yes of course! He put the ring on my finger and my brother set off fireworks over the lake! It was amazing!!

How we feel about our upcoming married life... I'm so unbelievably happy and excited to be marrying Stephen. We've been together for four years now and we've lived together for 2 and 1/2 years. I don't think marriage will be a huge change for us since we already know each other's funny quirks and habits. I'm looking forward to being a family, and starting a new journey together.

Our dream wedding could be described as... I see us surrounded by friends and family, dancing the night away after a beautiful ceremony.

Our colour/theme: bright blue and white.

Planning

So far we've planned... Our wedding day is fast approaching so we have all the big things planned already. Now we're on to the little (possibly more stressful) things, such as the seating chart, paying all the vendors, dress fittings, and pulling the whole wedding together.

Our biggest concern right now is... Right now my biggest concern is the seating chart. We have already had people calling us requesting to be sat with certain people and not be near others. I think it will be a big task to complete it.

Bridal Diary: July 14, 2008

I had my bridal shower yesterday, it was better than I ever could have imagined. All my friends and family were there, we played games all afternoon and everyone got along so well. It was relaxing and very fun! I am going to be calling some of our vendors tonight just to make sure I know when all the payments are due. I am also going to be working on the bathroom baskets, wedding schedules, itineraries, and hopefully doing some laundry as well!

How we met... Working at Canadian Tire.

We wanted to share our story because... So that people can see that is easy to plan a wedding and to remind them to enjoy every moment of it.

How he proposed... It was our first Christmas in our home together. We got up and went to open our gifts under our first Christmas tree. (Note: We love Christmas.) After gifts we did some tidying up and got cleaned up and ready to go to families homes. On our way out I noticed that the Christmas tree lights had been turned back on as well as the living room lights. Strange... I turned them off and went to get a few things upstairs. I came down and lights and all are on again... stranger. Jeff comes in and says that there is one more gift for me on the tree. I am walking around the tree and notice that there is a new ornament on there that is a little present. I take it off and open it, inside is a ring and as I look around Jeff is on one knee. He said some sweet things and of course I said yes. I couldn't have imagined a better proposal myself and the best part is we then got to spend the next day or so sharing our excitement with our families.

How we feel about our upcoming married life... I am ecstatic and can hardly wait to walk down the aisle to the man of my dreams.

Our dream wedding could be described as... A very whimsical day to celebrate our marriage with our good friends and family.

Our colour/theme: Blue, white, silver. Garden theme.

Planning

So far we've planned... Church, hall, flowers (silk and all bought), decorator, photographer, cake, dress, favours.

Our biggest concern right now is... That one of us has a cold or it rains. And if we will ever agree on a honeymoon.

Bridal Diary

I feel like we are off to a good start. All the big things are done now we just have small things to do and I can't wait for the final rush of things to happen. Being that we have 6 weddings to attend this summer I am glad we got done what we have so far. Less than a year now and it is starting to get real exciting!

How we met... Through friends.

We wanted to share our story because... It's a happy one! and I am the happiest woman in the world!

How he proposed... On our 7th month anniversary, he took me as a surprise to dine at a really, really nice restaurant. After dinner, I thought we were just gonna watch a movie but he said he had another surprise for me. When I got into the car, there was romantic music (I had no clue at that time), he also said he was about to take me to his favorite spot and that he had never showed anyone before. We arrived at a bike trail by the river. We were both dressed up, as I had decided to wear my most elegant heels. We began walking into this trail (mosquitoes flying everywhere, him holding my hand, and me - just wondering how deep into the woods this famous spot was?). We finally arrived and he proposed... I was in shock, and actually did not think it was for real... He had to stop and say "Sofia, I am serious"... It was so romantic, simply a magical moment. I can't say I was having very much fun walking back on that bike trail in my heels. He was sooo cute, he picked me up and carried me on his back the rest of the way. :)

How we feel about our upcoming married life... Can't wait! He is the man of my dreams.

Our dream wedding could be described as... Something elegant but small. With our family and closest friends in attendance, people that have been there for us all along!

Our colour/theme: purple, white, silver.

Planning

So far we've planned... The hall, the church, wedding decorator.

Our biggest concern right now is... The bridesmaid/maid of honour. I don't know who to ask.

Bridal Diary

WOW! Overwhelmed! There is so much to prepare and do for a wedding. Who knew? I have never been married. I have to remember to enjoy my engagement.

How we met... High School.

We wanted to share our story because... Because brides-to-be love reading these! At least I do!

How he proposed... It happened on my 25th birthday. We went out for dinner at the restaurant I work in. We had about 20 friends and family with us. After dessert, he made everyone stand up because he wanted to toast my birthday. I thought he was trying to embarrass me! I looked away for a moment and looked back and he was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. Of course I cried, and said yes! My boss came out with champagne and flowers for us! The best birthday ever!

How we feel about our upcoming married life... I'm so excited after 8 years to make it official.

Our dream wedding could be described as... Us getting married on a beautiful beach in Cuba, surrounded by close friends and family. We're also having a reception at the Walper Terrace Hotel in Kitchener when we get back.

Our colour/theme: Beach themed.

Planning

So far we've planned... Resort, reception hall, DJ, photographer.

Our biggest concern right now is... None at the moment.

Bridal Diary

The wedding planning has been pretty simple so far. I have all the major things booked. Now I just have to wait. The wonderful thing about a destination wedding is you fly down and decide everything once you get there. I just have to plan the reception for when we get back. If you have a great venue that supplies everything for you, there isn't much to worry about. I can't wait for the time to fly by! 10 months to go...

Basics

How we met... At church in 1999.

We wanted to share our story because... We have been dating for a very long time and this wedding has been a long time coming. It is a relief to finally get to the next step. It will also be a really stressful time. Andre is an actor at The Stratford Shakespeare Festival and he will be in the middle of the season as we continue our planning and our wedding will be during his only 3 days off period during the entire season. We are also both trying to lose some weight before the wedding.

How he proposed... He took me to a gazebo in Shakespeare Gardens at midnight in Stratford and brought champagne. We had a champagne toast and then he got down on one knee. After the proposal, the park lights went out on us and we were sitting in the dark. It was very amusing.

How we feel about our upcoming married life... I have been waiting 9 years for a proposal so I am very anxious to get to the next step in our lives. Every girl dreams of her wedding and I am no exception. I had most of my wedding planned in my head before the proposal came and I am very excited to experience the actual day.

Our dream wedding could be described as... I have always wanted an outdoor wedding so we want to get married at the gazebo that he proposed at and our reception will be in a room that overlooks the river.

Our colour/theme: Shades of purple, garden theme. Lots of flowers and butterflies.

Planning

So far we've planned... We have booked the ceremony and reception sites, the dj, photographer and invitations. We are now trying to pay for all the little things and get them out of the way first. I have chosen all my ladies but Andre still needs to pick one person. He has picked his best man and 3 groomsmen and 1 groomswoman but we want 6 on both sides.

Our biggest concern right now is... Having a very classy wedding on a low budget and affording everything and having beautiful sunny weather! Last summer it rained and rained and rained some more and I will cry if it rains on that day!

Bridal Diary

Andre and I have been dating since June 2004 I have been very impatiently waiting for a proposal for the last 3 years. We originally wanted to have a destination wedding, which didn't work out for various reasons... but we have our overwhelmed days when we really wish we could still do it. It would be A LOT simpler. The easiest parts so far have been choosing a location for both the ceremony and reception and finding my dress. All the rest has been complicated and frustrating. Both of us are trying to slim down a little before the big day, which has been a bit of a challenge. All we have really accomplished is both of us are eating a lot better. We are very anxious just to be done with the planning and get on with the big day.
